Dr Shashikiran Umakanth is a senior Professor of Medicine and the Medical Superintendent at Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi (a constituent unit of MAHE, Manipal).
With over two decades of experience in internal medicine, his clinical focus centres on acute management, standardising therapeutic pathways, and reducing errors due to high cognitive load in emergency and clinical environments.
Dr Shashikiran is a staunch advocate for rational, evidence-based healthcare. He maintains a deep interest in the philosophy of medicine, actively working to expose medical misinformation and promote scientific literacy and health quotient among both medical professionals and the general public.
He is the founder of MEDiscuss.org, a digital platform dedicated to high-quality medical education and health education. Furthermore, he bridges the gap between complex medical science and public health awareness through his regular Kannada health articles, and the column "ಕ್ಷ - ಕಿರಣ" (Ksha-Kirana), published in the Vishwavani newspaper.
